When I signed up for the ID.me service that the IRS, as well as other private companies, use to verify your identity, I got a call from this number. This was a legitimate call from a popular, private identity verification service provider that the IRS uses. If you get a call from this number, it should only be providing you a code that you would use to verify your identity on the ID.me site. You should never give this code to someone else that is asking for it as they may be trying to steal your identity. If you get a call from this number unexpectedly, you may be a victim of identify theft. As above, do not share the code given to you with anyone else.
