I've spoken to them twice. It probably is legit from Duke Energy, but what they want to do is put a device on your HVAC so that when the system gets overloaded in the heat of the summer they can shut your AC off to relieve the pressure on the power grid. It sounds like a bad idea to me. My main complaint is that I've already told them twice to take me off the list.
It is 2:40 pm on Tuesday, Jan 11th. This number just called me first stating that I was on a recorded line. He told me he was with Duke Energy but never even mentioned his name. He said something about tax or energy credits that I could get and asked me if I had central air... Of course I immediately hung up. I am not trying to say the words "yes or "no" to anybody so they can potentially use my voice for things I'm not actually approving of. I feel like Duke energy would send a letter with their logo and letter head, not call me like that if it were legit.
Has been calling me multiple times over the last few days at random times including "after hours", number is marked as potential spam already by Verizon so obviously I do not answer. If they were legit they can leave voice mail. They don't leave any though.
They said from Duke Energy about load control. Duke Energy has said they do not call like this. I call the number back after I hung up on them. The same one answered the call trying to get me to apply for the load control. I told her I had to think about so she started telling me all over again. I said I have to think about it and hung up. She didn't say my name. I don't believe this was on the up and up. Something was not right about this call.
They are representatives for Duke Energy's Power Manager program which is a free program that pays bill credits in the summer if you have central air. Here is a link to the program they are calling about: https://www.duke-energy.com/home/products/power-manager Not sure why Customer Service isn't aware they make outbound calls but it is a legitimate program through Duke Energy and they do make outbound calls for this program.
