This is Portfolio Recovery debt collection. They rotate their numbers from different areas of the country to make it look like it might be someone you know locally.
Wired. I got a call from 914-206-7134. It said it’s from Yonkers,ny. I’m in Minnesota. I didn’t answer. And they didn’t leave a voicemail.
Computer generated voice: "because your social has been found suspicious for certain illegal activities. It is very time sensitive and urgent that I do hear back from you before we proceed further with suspension of your social and assets. My direct call back number is 914-206-4812 again the number is 914-206-4812 thank you."
A Mr. John White says he's calling from Publishers Clearing House and has a check for me if I call him back at (914) 206-5307. This was left as a message. I don't pick up any more if I don't recognize who's calling me.
They don't ever tell the purpose for their call. Want you to verify personal information like fraud is not happening all over. Then when you asked for the purpose of the call or how may I help you? They get upset and hang up. I thought that was illegal anyway
