I too got the call stating they were from amazon and about the suspected questionable purchase of the latest Iphone to my Amazon account. He gave me a fake name and fake employee ID of AMZ2526 and stated not to worry about the charges. Amazon would refund everything and then wanted to freeze my account. Needed info. I said that I would not give him that info but would hang up and call amazon myself. He hung up. I called Amazon and he stated that it was indeed a scam. My account shows only the purchases I have made.
I hung up when I saw "Amazon" in the caller ID, but after an online search showed this as the legit Amazon phone number, I called Amazon to find out who called me and why. Turns out, nobody from Amazon called. These creeps are able to enter a fake caller ID with Amazon's number. Good thing I hung up instead of answering. What bugs me is this: Why can't US law enforcement do anything about these jerks and jerks like them?
Not a call, but they charged my debit card $99.50 with the name WT-EAR-SHIP 8882804331 CA 20275. There have been two of these charges to my bank account this month. I originally did charge $4.95 for a shipping charge related to receiving a free set of ear-buds if I pay the freight. Check your bank account for unrecognized charges and this phone number.
Caller ID showed Amazon. Message was my Amazon credit card was used to make a $750 purchase. I should press 1 to talk to someone about canceling the charge. This happened 8/22/20 at 8:47 am. Checked my account - it was fine.
Just another loser scammer in a sea of millions.
Called my credit card company to check that call was scam. It was.
recording said someone was trying to make an unauthorized purchase on my account. I have notified Amazon before about this telephone number - why can't Amazon, as big as they are, do something about these creeps?!
I was setting up a new Roku system, called the number on screen for help with set up. Long story short, after 2 hours on phone which I thought was the Roku support staff, I ended up having to cancel my debit card and change my Amazon pass word. Amazon was involved because I pay for my channels through them. Why can't this 888-280-4331 # be taken off? You have to be SO CAREFUL . Somehow these crooks are able to hack into legitimate sites and rip you off. With over 700 complaints, how come they are allowed to carry on? One more , everybody I talked with was very difficult to understand, they were Easy Indian. The computer has become a portal for crooks, BEWARE.
Called to tell me someone was purchasing an iPhone at a cost of $700+ on my Amazon account. I hung up.

These scammers have called my phone 19 times in the past 2 hours telling me there is a $729 charge on my account. They keep leaving a VM telling me to press 1. Most of the calls I got today were from local numbers but now this one showed up and left the same vm to press 1 for help. As I typed this they called again!
