Same as the rest; got the call claiming to be CBE and that my old business owed taxes. Thankfully I had no information to provide them and said I would look into it and get back to them. After hanging up I remembered that the IRS does have my current address as they had been in contact with me when the business closed in 2012. And like most of you, the cell phone number they called me on is not associated with my business and isn't even in my name! It belongs to my current employer. Beware everyone and don't be fooled. The IRS will contact you by mail and I;m pretty sure they know how to find you if they need to.

I received a call from them twice now. The first time they said I owed money to the IRS for an old business (that was a loss when claimed on taxes) and that I needed to update my address. I have lived in the same place and the IRS knows where I live! When they mentioned my business they said the wrong year which I didn’t realize until afterwards. The second time they called a month or so later, I immediately hung up. I’m certain it’s a scam.
Call to my cell phone. This number wasn't even around when the company was active. Closed about 20 years. Not active for long. No outstanding debts and taxes were always paid when items purchased. Just a Scam and Fraud.
Ask for the owner of an old LLC. When I ask them who they were they wouldnt say. RED FLAG 1. I ask them what they do and they wouldnt say. READ FLAG 2. SCAM
Called me today about a very OLD LLC i had saying I owe old Taxes from 2012. Would not give me info. Said i needed to get with the IRS and provide them a change of address form. I gave them my old business address and they said that was not the address associated with the Business. I dont know what to do.
Same thing as the others on this page. Called to say three were “CDE” or “CBE” and asked for the officer of an old LLC that has been dissolved for over 7 years. When I asked what they were they just continue to say “CBE Collections”. When asked what CBE stands for they just say “We are CBE”. When asked who they were calling for it was “an office of XXX LLC.” This is NOT the number to the CBE Group that works with the IRS collections. They have an 800 number and state that you will get a letter from the IRS first, then CBE which will contain random alpha-numeric codes for identification when or if they call.

What was the outcome? I recieved the ame type of call on a corp that has been dissolved for years.
Called and asked for me by name, referred to a very old LLC in which he states the IRS has been trying to reach me with returned letters and they have been hired to collect on outstanding IRS taxes. Provided them an address to send out the letter and will wait to see what is sent. They could not tell me how much, how long, what years and said it was coming from Waterloo Iowa and that to be on the lookout for that - Waterloo Iowa - then they would start the verification process, once the letter was received.
