Wells Fargo related scam. Tried to get a checking account number.
I got mail with a notice listing this number to call for questions regarding a student loan that is falsely reporting on my credit report. They claim to be Wells Fargo but I'm pretty sure it's a scam. My loan was paid in full and closed five years ago and whoever they are, keep sending me letters with "changed account numbers." The scary thing is, they are somehow getting their false payment info on Equifax and Experian.
The FTC has logged 18 complaints against 844-576-6424. 55% of complaints identified the call as a robocall or recorded message. The last of these complaints was submitted on May 22, 2026. Complaints came from 13 states, including New Jersey, North Carolina, Arizona, California, Colorado and Minnesota. The most complaints came from Chatham and Mesa.
