I received a call from this number (800-237-0423) today. The person greeted me and told me he was with "U.S. Cred--" before quickly correcting himself and saying he was with PenFed Credit Union. He then went on to tell me I needed to "unlock" my Equifax credit report so PenFed could access it to approve my loan. Here's the thing, I DID go through PenFed's online form looking into loans. I didn't complete the process bc PenFed has confusing verbiage....they state that you can fill out their form to see what loan you might qualify for, and that it has no bearing on your credit (ie, no hard inquiry), but then as you begin the form-filling process, they say they will pull your credit report. That's all good and fine if that's their policy, but I understood it would be a soft pull and didn't want a hard inquiry, so I stopped the process. No biggie. There are other credit unions and banks. BUT, then I get this call today from this very stumbly, bumbly, nervous man who wasn't clear....all he did was confuse me and tell me I had to call PenFed to have my Qs answered--ugh, dude, I thought you said you WERE PenFed. Very sketchy, very shady. After going in circles with the pointless conversation, I put a quick end to the call and blocked the number. I don't know who has access to PenFed's internal info, but they need to put a stop to this nonsense FAST. Do not trust this number.
