My mother-in-law received the same call. Person wanted $8000.00 to get someone out of jail.

My "Grandson" called because in was in a car accident and arrested. Wants me to bail him out. He gave me this number (518 300 3676) for his lawyer Robert Stevens. Said lawyer would call from there to tell me how to pay. Said "lawyer" called with a well scripted dialog even to "the phone call is being recorded" speech. Well, I don't have a grandson or even a grandchild! Not even in the oven!

This same person (scammer) hit up my elderly mother today. Same thing - grandson in a car accident, needed bail, $10,000. Amazingly, she has an 18-year-old grandson, who lives nearby, with a new drivers' license - so it sounded plausible. Also clever: the fake grandson has a "broken nose", which explains why his voice doesn't sound recognizable. She almost fell for it, but thankfully didn't. We realized later that the crying grandson started with "Grandma, grandma, I need help!" Then she said "Oh no, honey, is this xxx [saying his name]"? And he said, "Yes Grandma, it's me, xxx." The he used the correct name several times. I googled the "lawyer's" phone number, and guess what, it's this one: 518-300-3676. Horrible!
