Lauren (Laura?) Miller also must have gotten my phone number from a church directory. She sounds sweet and professional and knew my name and my position at the correct church name and denomination but left no message other than, "Please Call Me Back." Sounds like a scam to me
Same story here - she calls and asks for the pastor or elder and is looking for money.
Laura Miller 503-703-5596 went through our church directory and got to me and gave me her story. I told her I would talk with the other elders and call her back in the process of doing that I called the Columbia County Sheriff's Office where she was at and they said we have a program with that motel we can help her. So I gave them the info and called Miller back and she got VERY upset and hung up on me. I believe as others have said this woman is just trying to get money not help.
Received two calls a week apart from this lady. Without stating who she is or why she is calling, she asked to talk to the pastor. (Sounded like she wanted or needed something except I'm the guy to talk to for that). Both times I told her he's not available. Both times she hung up on me. I found her number here only to discover this is her scam. Beware.
Linda Miller, same stealing from charity and churches has made it to Washington State
Same story...a few weeks ago a "Laura Miller" called a church of Christ in Albany, OR asking for help with a "small need". Someone from the church there asked me about it and I found her number on this website. Then, just a few minutes ago, she called my number and left a voicemail asking for an elder or deacon. I called back. At first I did not know it was her, but I could infer from the tone of her voice and the "smoothness" of her delivery that this was not legitimate. Then I also remembered her name, from before. I said, "I think I've heard about you, calling around and giving this story." She immediately replied, "No, you're a liar. You're a wolf in sheep's clothing. Never call me again."
Called twice today first seeking payment for a night in a hotel in Bellingham, WA, then for a ride to anywhere she would be safe as her car is broken down at the hotel. She was unwilling to be brought to a shelter. Story regarding house sitting was same as others have posted; she is expecting a job offer tomorrow.
Helped with a hotel room in Bellingham, WA. Very similar story ... Current story is that her car was towed because of a transmission issue.
I just received a call from her. She evoked the Samaritan's story and that it was "such a small need', but would not tell me what it was. I called her back after finding her number here. I left a message mentioning that other people have not been please with her and we would not be giving her anything. She called right back, but I didn't answer and she did not leave a voicemail. I grieve that some of you were abused by her and grateful for your stories so others will not be.
Thank you for this. I'm a pastor in Centralia. She left a number for a call back. My gut told me to google her number and it led me here. I'm happy to help with my discretionary fund, but it's getting low and I want to help those who need it.
People like this, take away from those who are actually in need.
We received a call from Laura Miller from this number. She was in the Mt. St. Helen's Motel, Castle Rock, WA. Someone had paid for a night for her and she needed another night paid so called us because we worship on Saturday and she knew someone would be at our Church. A deacon and deaconess went to the Motel to meet Laura and hear her story. Her story was not credible: Said her car was towed to a junk yard. Said she was waiting for a house sitting job call which would come in on Monday afternoon. She said she would be calling a Sunday Church in Castle Rock to get them to pay for her Sunday night stay. Laura said she attended the Oral Robert's College and she is a Christian and woman of faith. She was from CA and going toward Seattle for house sitting jobs. It was 10:45am and we invited her to our Potluck meal at noon but she said she had a headache and wanted to rest. Laura was very clean cut and articulate, well nourished and smooth creamy skin on her face. She mentioned being hungry and all I had on me was $15 so gave that to her. We did pay for the room charge of $90.
Laura called our church today too. We are in the Valley. I thought that her story seemed to have some issues. After looking into her and her story, I saw this webpage. There is a chance she is being used by somebody to make her do this work of calling asking for help. She seemed very nice (and quoted the Bible) when we were first chatting, but when we said that we would not be able to help, she was very dismissive. I am grateful for this website and that others had responded similarly.
Laura Miller called our church today with this no. 503-703-5596 asking for assistance with hotel room and food. We assisted her with a food card.
Same story here today. she is still making the rounds. She called one of our elders and became abusive a few days ago and then tried our church office this morning.
A Laura Miller called the church from 503-703-5596 and I answered. She asked for the pastor, I said, "speaking." She asked for my name (I don't ordinarily give out my name to suspicious callers), and I said, "with whom am I speaking?" She gave her name, then immediately asked for assistance. That's a red flag for a scammer. They need money now.
Called asking for my name said my old churches name and said call her back left her number and name ...
Received a call from Laura Miller today. Similar story: evoking the good Samaritan to ask for payment for a current hotel room and asking for gift cards. When offering to connect her to a pastor closer to her present location, she became angry and impatient.
Laura Miller called the church from 503-703-5596 asking for money. She was polished and practiced. She quoted scripture but her story was not credible and had many holes in it. When she was told that we could not help her she became angry and verbally abusive. She showed her true colors.

Got a call from Laura Miller again. Asked to speak to the pastor again. I know her name, her voice, and her scam. As soon as I called her out the last time, she got angry and called me an f-ing liar and then hung up. That was a year or two ago. I thought that was the end of her. It is not apparently. DO NOT HELP HER.
