Got unwanted call from 480-744-3527?
Scam me out of possible $3800.00 same way
same thing happened to me!!
480-744-3527 pretended to be Geek Squad Webroot technicians. I did allow them remote access to my home laptop. They pretended to be Patrick Sanders and Sean Morgan. They said to protect my credit card information from being recorded on their monitored/recorded phone call, that I would have to go into my Amazon account and buy a "license" from Best Buy to install the most current version of Webroot. So they talked me through purchasing Best Buy gift cards which arrived to my home the next day. When the gift cards arrived (2 gift cards totaling $300), I read the serial numbers to them over the phone, which they promptly spent. They kept up the charade pretending to scan my computer for viruses. Then they said I would need to go back to Amazon and buy a firewall device for $1600 even showing me the Fortinet/FortiGate-81E device. They said that a "hold" would be put on my credit card until the repairs could be made to my computer and the device returned. The next day, 1/31/2020, UPS delivered, not a hardware device, but only more gift cards. By this time I had figured out the scam and refused the delivery sparing myself another $1600 charge to my credit card. Amazon DID refund my money. But VISA will not allow a refund of my $300 because I am the one who made the purchase.
