Pretended to be the lawyer of my granddaughter that had been in a car accident that she was not at fault for, but received a DUI. Wanted $7000 in cash over-nighted. Total scam. Nearly caused a heart attack.
called and said they were my oldest grandson and that he got in a car accident and was in jail said a procuter would be calling me the sargarent from jail called me an asked if I would be posting his bail I said no didn't have the money then he said well he will be going to county hung up
I also received a call from a guy coughing the whole time on the phone and saying he was my grandson and that he got in a car accident and ended up going to jail, because the police found an open bottle of wine in the car. He was in the infirmary in the jail and needed $9,600 for bail. He said he was in Chicago attending a funeral that his friend wanted to go to and he hit a car with a lady that was 5 months pregnant. He said their visit to Chicago was supposed to be "in and out" and he mentioned something about a hotel stay, which definitely was a red flag. He also described his injuries of a broken nose, bruises, broken ribs, etc., but never mentioned how his friend was. He gave me a phone number, 315-636-0542, and said it was for John Reid, a so called Public Defender with case number, 0426771-A and that I should call him. Right after I hung up the phone, the so called John Reid, called me and asked for the money, too. I hung up on him.
also received a call saying they were my grandson that got in a car accident and need $3000.00 for bail, said he was threatened with rape by one his cell mates and feared for his life. Was given a Case Number, by the so called Public Defender.
