caller claimed there was a charge on my account and wanted verification of that charge - no identifying info or company name - strong accent. SPAM caller - beware!
Received a call from 210-531-8722, listed as USAA on my caller id, so I answered the call. They said they were in the fraud department and wanted to verify charges made on my card. Listed charges against my account from Target, Walmart, etc. I was at a carnival, it was loud, los of music-I could not hear very clear. Either my card was used with my apple wallet or in a terminal. Asked if I had my card in my possession. I did. Asked if this has happened in the past. I said no. He was going to send me a new card and told me my address. He sent me a link via text to further secure my account and needed me to login from there for security. It did not have usaa in the link he sent me. I questioned it, he ensured me it was a safe hyperlink. I clicked on the link, but luckily I logged in incorrectly. He said he realized it was not a good time, he would contact me later when I was home to login correctly. I asked him if I would see the charges on my account, he said no, not the ones he listed as fraud in the last hour from various locations statewide. I told him to call later. I looked at my accounts nothing different. No emails, text, internal email on my account listing my card as blocked. I decided to call USAA’s fraud department instead of waiting for my call. They had no notes on my account or claims of fraud on my card or account. Please check on your own. This call was very professional and the caller id listed the number as USAA so I took the call.
Got a call asking if they could speak to XYZ who is my ex-husband. Caller ID says USAA. Contacted USAA to inform and while the number is correct for USAA it is spoofed. They can check to see if any real outbound calls have been made to you
They called impersonating USAA and I gave them my social security number to confirm my account.
Call. Impersonating USAA.
I received a call from this number yesterday pretending to be USAA, reporting fraud on my debit card, he stated I needed to send my debit card in, and that another would be sent out, I allowed him to think that I was ok with everything. He gave me the address to send the card to. I called USAA this morning to see if the call was legit and it was not

I answered the call because I am a USAA customer. I said "hello" twice and only her a person typing on a keyboard. Then I became suspicious and hung up. USAA does not do that. All communications with them are expected, usually, and they send email notifications rather than calling in my experience. Do not answer any calls that are not in your contacts or that you are not expecting. Any important, legitimate callers will leave a voicemail.
