Said he was Agent Frank Pierce in the fraud dpt. of consumer affairs. Told me that Mega millions (an online lottery that I actually play) had been trying to get in touch with me for 2 weeks about the 2nd place prize I have won in the amount of $450,000.00. He went over my information and they were off on my address by one number. I'm listening and I'm not getting excited yet. I'm like, I'll be excited when I see the courier at my door. So, he confirms my information and we agreed that I don't want any news media. At no point in this conversation do I say the word "yes" or anything that can be turned into an agreement of the word yes. He finishes up and gives me the mega millions number to call and verify that I am accepting the prize. I hang up and call mega millions and verify that I am accepting the prize. At no time do I say, "yes" or anything that can be turned into an agreement of yes. We hang up and I'm thinking ok, maybe this is legit. About an hour later, "Frank" called back. He tells me he has received the hard copy of the prize agreement from mega millions. Now, in order for them to send me the prize money (a check from Wells Fargo) I must pay the insurance which will be given back to me when my money is given to me via the courier. In NC, the state insurance is 0.002% which in his math equals $900. I'm like, nope! I know for a fact that if you truly win something, you do NOT have to pay anything to get it! I told him that what he is doing is scamming people who really need their money, and he should be locked up. I'm reporting him. I did. Hopefully, they will shut this down. Please don't fall for this. If you win anything, you will never be asked to pay anything in order to get it.
